Who we are

CarHive Motors (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates this website, an online marketplace where private sellers can advertise vehicles for sale and buyers can enquire about them. For the purposes of UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), the data controller is CarHive Motors. The information we collect

Depending on how you use the site, we may collect:

Account details — your name, email address and password when you register a seller account.
Contact details — your phone number, used to let buyers contact you about your listings.
Listing information — the vehicle details you submit (make, model, year, mileage, price, colour, description, photos), the location (postcode), and the vehicle registration number. The registration number is stored privately and is never shown on the public listing.
Enquiry details — if you contact a seller, the name, email and message you provide, which we forward to the relevant seller.
Technical data — your IP address and basic request information, which we use for security (for example, to limit abuse and prevent spam).

How and why we use your information

To provide the service — creating and managing your account, publishing your listings, and passing buyer enquiries to the relevant seller.
To look up vehicle details — when you use the registration lookup, the registration number is sent to the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service to retrieve public vehicle data (such as make, year, colour and fuel type) to help you complete your listing.
To keep the site secure — detecting and preventing spam, fraud and abuse.
To moderate listings — new listings may be reviewed before they appear publicly.

Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal data. We share information only where necessary to run the service:

With other users — your seller display name, listing details and (where you provide it) your phone number are shown to potential buyers so they can contact you. Buyer enquiry details are shared with the seller they contact.
With the DVLA — registration numbers submitted to the lookup feature are sent to the DVLA’s Vehicle Enquiry Service.
With service providers — our hosting and email providers, who process data on our behalf.
Where required by law — if we are legally obliged to disclose information.

How long we keep your information

We keep your account and listing data for as long as your account is active. You can ask us to delete your account and listings at any time. Some information may be retained where we have a legal obligation to do so or to resolve disputes.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your personal data, to object to certain processing, and to data portability. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@carhivemotors.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

We use cookies that are necessary for the site to function, including keeping you logged in and protecting forms against abuse.
